Sala Abdalla
BSc MBBS FRCS (Gen Surg)
I'm a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon.
I specialise in laparoscopic ‘keyhole’ surgery; all types of hernia surgery; gallbladder surgery; peri-operative cholangiography; benign upper gastrointestinal surgery; diagnostic gastroscopies, and surgery for the removal of skin lesions.
I believe that good communication and joint decision-making are the cornerstones of excellent surgical care.
I consult in both English and Arabic, and I am proud to be able to treat women who have a preference for a female clinician.
My clinical strategy is to use minimally invasive techniques and provide robust post-operative and follow-up care.
My specialist training was completed in London and focussed on the management of benign hepato-biliary and upper gastrointestinal conditions.
I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
I have a private practice at the HCA Chiswick Medical Centre and the Lister Hospital in Chelsea, and The New Victoria Hospital in Kingston-upon-Thames.
I'm passionate about improving global access to safe surgical care and I hold a Certificate in Improving Global Health from Harvard University.
As Director of Operation International UK, a UK-based surgical charity, I lead humanitarian surgical missions to underserved communities around the world.
I was the voted the 2023 Volunteer of year by Charity Today and 2019 winner of ASiT (Association of Surgeons in Training) Global Surgery award for this charitable work.
I have published research articles in peer-reviewed journals and two textbooks:
A History of Surgery with Professor Harold Ellis CBE, Emeritus professor of surgery, is an in-depth look at the development of surgery through the ages and in ancient civilisations.
Cracking the General Surgical Interviews for ST3 is a handy guide for doctors who wish to secure a specialist training position in General Surgery.
I am a member of the teaching faculty for the Royal College of Surgeons Basic Surgical Skills, Core Skills in Laparoscopic Surgery and Intermediate Skills in Laparoscopic Surgery courses. I have redeveloped the online learning material for the Royal College of Surgeon's anti-reflux surgery module.
I deliver surgical skills training for higher surgical trainees in the London Deanery.
I supervise foundation doctors and medical students from Imperial College, London.
I am also an honorary Clinical Teacher and Examiner for Imperial College London, School of Medicine, my alma mater.
